Barons put in strong performance to slay Dragons

The EDG Property Solihull Barons returned to their strong home form set of results with a convincing win on Sunday over the Deeside Dragons in a result which saw the Barons consolidate second place in the league while the Dragons slipped down to fourth.

The Barons opened the scoring after 7 minutes through a powerplay strike by Niklas Ottosson from the centre of the blue line after the puck was circulated to him from Richard Crowe and Alex Whyte. After 11 minutes the Dragons found Andy McKinney in the mirrored position to Ottosson with a goal being the same outcome to level things up. The game would continue to run end to end but there would be no further scoring in the first period. More here

Barons squeezed out of finals by Hawks

The EDG Property Solihull Barons failed to progress to the Moralee cup final despite a spirited home performance which saw the Blackburn Hawks beat them 6-4 on the night and 13-7 on aggregate setting up a Hawks v Billingham Stars final.

Ottosson frustrated by Keddie (S Crampton)

After just over three minutes the Hawks were first to net as pressure in the home end saw the puck reach Adam Barnes square in front of the goal who wheeled round for the opener. By the 7th minute the Barons had drawn level as Jacob Smith on the left hand point picked up a feed direct from a face-off in the Hawk end. This was quickly followed by Solihull’s second as Niklas Ottosson slipped the puck into the open Blackburn net beyond a sprawled Ben Keddie at the other post. By period end the Hawks had first drawn level in some quality end to end play which saw Jacob Lutwyche race up the left hand wing evading Barons defences before slotting the puck home. A depleted EDG Property Solihull Barons went down to defeat at the Sheffield Scimitars on Sunday evening but retained second place in the standings after closest rivals the Deeside Dragons failed to pick up points over the weekend.

The Barons lined up missing the injured Daniel Mulcahy and the suspended Phil Mulcahy, Filip Byfält and Graham Laverick. Ben Lee stepped up as netminder while Coventry NIHL Blaze goalie Joel Bearman was brought in as back-up goalie. More here

The EDG Property Solihull Barons emerged victorious in a 2nd v 3rd Moralee clash at Hobs Moat on Saturday evening in a match which was dominated early on by the Barons before the Dragons stages something of a recovery.

Phil Mulcahy got the scoring off to a start after three and a half-minutes by waiting patiently by the back post to score off of a feed from Daniel Mulcahy after he and Niklas Ottosson had pulled Dragons goalie Oliver Booth to his near post. Three minutes later and the Solihull advantage doubled as Niklas Ottosson fired home from the blue line in the dying seconds of a powerplay. By 12 minutes the Barons had made it three as Matt Maurice won the chase up the ice before sweeping the puck to Filip Byfält square on goal, the Finn making no mistake with his shot. More here
