Recap

Widnes Wild : 3
EDG Property Solihull Barons : 4

The EDG Property Solihull Barons came from behind to squeak a 4-3 win at Widnes Wild on Saturday evening in a closely fought battle which could have gone either way.

Dani Haid goes to drastic angles to try to score on his former side (J&K Davies)

In a first period marked by very even end to end play, it took until the 18th minute and a powerplay before the puck found the net, Mikey Gilbert for Widnes taking that particular honour.

Filip Byfält creates space (J&K Davies)

The Barons would pull level early in the second period as a Widnes interference penalty was quickly punished by Phil Mulcahy, getting Solihull off their marks. By the middle of the middle 20 the Wild had however recovered their lead, Kyle Carruth finding space beyond Graham Laverick for Widnes second goal of the game.

Pressure on the Barons goal (J&K Davies)

The Wild would double their advantage two minutes into the third as Bez Hughes put the puck between the piping for the Wild’s third. If the Wild had perhaps had the balance of play in the middle period it would be the Barons who would hit their stride in the final 20. With ten minutes left on the clock Richard Crowe would fire home two goals in the space of 40 seconds to wipe out the Wild lead and set up a winner takes all rush to the buzzer. With 6 minutes left Crowe would supply Dan Mulcahy with the chance he needed and with the Barons fourth goal in the bag the win would be sealed.

Niklas clears the Barons end (J&K Davies)

After a few weeks away the Barons are back on home ice this Sunday as we welcome the Nottingham Lions, a side more than capable of upsetting any in the league. We hope to see you there ! Face-off 5.30pm, Sunday 19th November.
