Recap

The Direct Taxis Solihull Barons rounded off their 2021-22 regular season Moralee campaign with an emphatic and dominant display over the Nottingham Lions on Sunday evening to confirm the Barons as having secured 4th place in the league.

A 5 goal night for Tom Soar (S Crampton)

Continuing on from last weekend’s strong performance against Blackburn, a buoyant Barons were first to find the net as Niklas Ottosson opened the scoring a little after three minutes. Dan Mulchay would double the Barons lead before mid-period courtesy of a powerplay to Solihull. Two further goals either side of the 15 minute mark by Tom Soar and Phil Mulcahy would ensure the Barons would head to the dressing room at the end of the first 20 with a comfortable margin.

The Barons would continue on into the second much as they had through the first with Tom Soar getting another goal three minutes in. By mid-period the Lions has begun to run into penalty trouble which only aided the Barons hold on the game. Two mid-period goals and subsequent penalties would see Lions starting goalie, Luca Sheldon pick up a misconduct and be swapped for Matthew Bloor as a precaution only for Bloor himself to be given a match penalty within a minute of hitting the ice resulting in Sheldon returning to the crease. By the 40 minute mark the Barons had eased out the lead to 8 as Tom Soar knocked the puck into the Nottingham net a further three times in a two minute flurry.

Richard Crowe (S Crampton)

The final 20 minutes of the game would give the Barons a further two goals – Dan Mucahy followed by Andy Whitehouse, rounding off his tenth regular league season with Solihull with the final goal of the game. Interspersed between these was a single Lions goal from Zak Yokoyama.
