Smith finally set to ice for the Barons

The Solihull Barons are thrilled to have secured the signature of versatile forward James Smith for the upcoming 2021-22 season. The 26 year old Dundonian brings with him a wealth of experience including spells with the Dundee Stars and Fife Flyers elite teams as a teenager, before a 7 year run as part of the Telford Tigers set-up in NIHL National, N1 and N2 forms.

James Smith (J&K Davies)

For Callum Bowley retaining Smith at Solihull was a logical move given the Scottish forward’s all-round commitment and compete levels :

“I am really pleased that James has re-signed for the Barons. He’s brings a lot of experience, professionalism and character to our team which will really help us next season. He plays with an edge, has a great release, is a great all-round team player and offensively is very good. When you talk about forwards we often think about providing offence in terms of goals and assists, but James is great at both ends of the ice. He’s very calm on the puck in all situations and is a player that I know we’ll be able to rely on in crucial moments. I am sure the fans will love watching James play!

While technically a re-signing, Smith has yet to play in a Barons shirt following the abandonment of last season and is therefore massively keen to finally get the chance to show the Hobs Moat faithful what he can do on the ice.

“I’m pleased to be re-signing for the Barons after speaking with Callum. It was an easy decision to return as we know each other very well and I know the type of player and coach he is. He likes his teams to play an attacking style of hockey, play on the front foot and know their systems inside out. He’s pulling together a strong team and I will do my part in helping us have a successful season. I can’t wait to get going like the rest of the team !

Keep following for more announcements soon as Callum Bowley builds the 21-22 Barons !
