| With the Season now only 3 weeks away and the schedule for the Solihull Barons due shortly, Head Coach Darren Bellerby has today added more youth to the Squad for the 2011/2012 Campaign with the signatures of promising youngsters Charlie Hammerton & Ryan James.
Both players come to the Barons out of the Solihull U18 Squad from last season. Head Coach Darren Bellerby was eager to pencil both players in for a regular roster spot and ice time with the Barons. “Both Charlie and Ryan are forwards and have been working hard during the summer to show me that they have what it takes to compete at ENL Level.”
Charlie Hammerton is a second generation Baron, his father, Warwick, having been a regular in the side of the late 80s. Charlie joins the squad this season as a full senior player. Bellerby observed “With impressive stats on limited appearances due to being restricted to U18 commitments last year, Charlie has shown me over the summer he wants to be a part of the team and has been working hard both on and off the ice to prove he has what it takes to hold down a permanent slot this season.”
“Charlie is a big lad” commented Coach Bellerby “I’m looking for him to utilise that this year and become more of a presence on the ice and a complete package. He has good hands and an eye for goal and with the guidance of the guys around him I’m sure he will be a regular for many seasons to come.”
The second Signing comes in the form of :
Ryan James is another product of the junior system who like Charlie made limited appearances last season but impressed never the less. Bellerby stated ““Snowy” as we all know him brings a wise head for such a young player and his displays last year surprised a lot of the guys on the team including myself. At only 5ft 7inch Snowy is technically gifted and what he lacks in size he makes up with in hockey sense. With the connection he had with Charlie both as an U18 & Baron last season I’m looking forward to these two linking up again as full seniors and to develop into good ENL players.”
With the signing of Ryan & Charlie to the forward lines this year there are now only a few limited slots left on the Barons’ roster but don’t be surprised if over the next few weeks you see a further few new faces to the Barons in a case of saving the best till last .
