Tomas Janak will be pulling on a Barons shirt again soon
|
Barons coach Darren Bellerby has confirmed that former Telford Tigers captain Tomas Janak has signed to play out off Hobs Moat for the 2013-14 season.
Slovakian Janak has been training with the Barons for the last few weeks and has been confirmed as Solihull's third import for the new Laidler Conference campaign.
Janak is best known locally as Captain of Premier League side the Telford Tigers, but has played for the Barons in their premier league days and also pulled on the skates for sides in the Czech, Slovak and French leagues.
Primarily a defenceman, Janak can also step up to the forward lines and so gives Bellerby a range of options, particularly if one of the other imports, forward Erik Bakalar and defenceman Mikey Rodger are unavailable.
With the Barons recently picking up the likes of Joe Henry, Ryan Selwood and Josh Bruce from Telford, Janak is no stranger to much of the Barons squad and this ready chemistry should ensure he will be able to make an immediate impact.
The Barons face what is likely to be the toughest weekend of their season with away ties at Coventry on Saturday and Nottingham on Sunday.
The Blaze opened their Laidler Conference season last weekend and like the Barons notched up a convincing win when they put the Sheffield Senators to the sword.
While the Barons and Blaze have met in a couple of challenge games last season, Saturday will mark the first time since the 2011-12 season that a full blooded A45 Derby will have been held.
Add in to the mix significant player movement between the two sides in the off-season and an exciting nights entertainment should be on the cards.
