Head Coach Darren Bellerby has paid special tribute to the Barons fans after his side’s 7-5 rivalry victory over Coventry ENL Blaze.
Spectators turned out in force to roar the Barons home to victory, and Darren has applauded the 811 strong crowd for their barrage of support that helped drive his side on to the vital win.
“The fans were fantastic, they really helped us.” Said Darren.
“I said at the start of the game that I couldn’t believe how many people turned up. I mean 800 odd into an ENL match is a fantastic amount and it makes a real difference. |

Mike Rodger, Luke Thomas and Man of the Match Rob Eley,
apply pressure to the Coventry net. |
“We have quite a small rink and when you get that many people in there all cheering for the Barons it’s like an extra man on the ice and it really helps the players.
“It was a fantastic result. As I said, every point is a big point but to put one over on Coventry is always going to be a nice feeling.
“After the 9-2 result, in which I don’t think they were seven goals better than us, it was good to set the record straight. But I’m not going to argue with that score line, and I’m not going to argue with it this time either, we got the two points and that’s what matters.” |
The win was only the Barons third so far this season, so could be deemed as special in its own right, but Darren admitted that success in the derby matches are the results that matter most to him.
He added: “This is what this league is all about. The derby games are bigger to me, it’s like a cup final to us and to beat Coventry feels great.
|
“The win is important, especially in our own rink. We want to come out every time with two points and we want to give our fans who pay their hard earned money something to cheer about from a game, but yes it does make victory sweeter because it’s over Coventry.
“But to give them (Blaze) credit where credits due, they’re a dangerous side and there’s a long way to go in the season, so there will be plenty of thrills and spills to go.”
