Barons reflect on an outstanding double-winning season

Presentation Night

On Saturday night a large group of Barons supporters, players and officials gathered at Hobs Moat for the last time in the 2014/15 season to reflect on what had been another trophy sweeping season for the Solihull squad.

With both the league and play-off trophies on show it was a time for the players to collect their personal medals and trophies, for the off-ice team to be thanked and for a few special (and a few not so special) awards to be given out.

To our Sponsors - Thank You !!!

A big, big part of the Barons success this season has been the support of our loyal sponsors, big and small, who have been a key element of the team and enabled us to put on the best hockey, to the biggest and best support and bring home the league and play-off double for the second year in a row.

To our sponsors a big thank you and we hope to see you back next year !

If you would like to join us next season as a sponsor please contact us via solihullbarons@gmail.com

Edward Eaton
Player's Player of the Year

Centering the Barons second line, sandwiched between the goal machines of Tom Soar and Niklas Ottosson, Eaton's contribution to the line and to the Barons should not be underestimated.

Voted by his fellow Barons as their player of the year, his strong face-off and play making ability through his sophomore year with Solihull, was a major factor in the success of the 2014-15 Barons.

(Award collected by Edwards's father).

Tom Soar
Coach's Player of the Year

One of Darren Bellerby's key additions to the 2014/15 Barons, Tom Soar quickly established himself as the big guy with the great hands.

A hat-trick in the play-off final cemented Soar as perhaps the classiest goal scorer on the Barons side. Favouring carefully aimed shots from the circles, Soars partnership with Niklas Ottosson gave Hobs Moat a degree of quality rarely seen at this level.

Josh Bruce
Supporters' Player of the Year

First line winger Josh Bruce picked up the supporters' player of the year for the second year running to mark him out as a firm fan favourite.

The left wing's swashbuckling approach to the game, combining dashing play through the zones, grit along the boards and of course a hatful of goals clearly endeared him to the Barons support.

Jake Larkin
Steve Perks Young Player of the Year

20 year old Jake Larkin put in a career best performance over the past season with 38 points from 16 goals and 22 assists.

Typically skating on the third line with Rich Slater and Andy Whitehouse, Larkin's efforts were also awarded with three man of the match awards over the course of the season.

Joe Henry
Most Points of the Year

First line centre Joe Henry was certainly prolific through 2014/15 ending the season just one point shy of the magic 100.

Averaging close to four points a game, Henry was most commonly backed by Josh Bruce to his left and Tomas Janak to the right to create a skilled but gritty first line.

Supplementary Awards
While the main awards were the most coveted there were also a series of more "niche" awards dished out on Saturday evening.

Richard Crowe, Niklas Ottosson, Tom Soar
Best and/or Worst Hair of the Year

With their carefully trimmed locks normally hidden under black plastic lids, Saturday was a chance to see some of the Barons most delicately coiffured barnetts.

Kieran Papps, Rich Slater, Dan Harrison, Josh Nicholls
Dummy Spitters of the Year

While hockey players certainly have their talents they are not above the odd spot of petulance and the Barons have a few who have had their moments.
